Tummy tucks on the rise among men

While many may believe that men are more impervious to body image issues than women, a recent trend seems to indicate otherwise. The New York Times reports that, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, between 2000 and 2009 the number of men undergoing abdominoplasty procedures, more commonly referred to as tummy tucks, has doubled.
Some men who are concerned about the appearance of their midsection may have tried out over-the-counter products that tout their ability to give users a six-pack. However, the news source reports that these creams and ointments are often very ineffective and might lead men to seek out other options.”If you think you can go into a store and buy something and get all these results, then you’re fooling yourself,” Stefan Pinto, a model and fitness writer, told the new source.Tanning is also a popular option to look slimmer in general, but also to create the illusion of abdominal muscles or more definition.
According to the Mayo Clinic, tummy tucks can be performed for a number of reasons, but are most frequently used to tighten any lose or excess skin. These areas are often resistant to exercise and diet.

Can a plastic surgeon remove c-section scars?

According to WomensHealth.gov, the most common surgery undergone by women in the U.S. is childbirth by cesarean section – also known as c-section surgery. While many of these surgeries result in barely noticeable, horizontal scars below the underwear line, there are times when large, raised, discolored, painful or even vertical scarring happens.
The good news for women who have abnormal scars resulting from a c-section is that they may be able to make it less noticeable with the help of a plastic surgeon.
“In the hands of a skilled surgeon, painful, thick or prominent scars can be revised for a more subtle appearance,” a plastic surgeon who performs scar revision surgeries wrote recently in the La Jolla Light newspaper. Doctors may use several different methods to reduce the size and improve the appearance of a scar. According to the National Institutes of Health’s MedlinePlus, this may involve opening the incision and reclosing it carefully as well as using nonsurgical cosmetic techniques such as dermabrasion.
Others suggest women who suffer from unsightly c-section scars combine their scar revision with other procedures such as a tummy tuck or a so-called mommy makeover, which may include a combination of cosmetic procedures including breast lift, liposuction and/or body contouring.

Tummy tuck among the most popular plastic surgeries

Over the last decade, the number of plastic surgeries being performed has risen across the board, but one procedure in particular has experienced the most significant gains.
The number of patients undergoing tummy tucks has increased 84 percent from 2000 to 2009, according to statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
While men can certainly benefit from the procedure, doctors say that the vast majority of patients undergoing the treatment are women. Analysts suggest that pregnancy’s effect on the body may be one of the main reasons women are more likely to elect for a tummy tuck.
This straightforward procedure can tighten and flatten the abdominal area, getting rid of excess skin and fat while allowing women to regain their figures.
Although tummy tucks are an effective form of body contouring, it is not a weight loss treatment and they work best on patients who have demonstrated that they can maintain a healthy weight.
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery states that those who are considering undergoing a tummy tuck should first consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon.

Ultherapy® – New Non-Surgical, Non-Invasive Cosmetic Procedure Coming Soon to Samra Plastic Surgery, NJ

Cosmetic Surgery New Jersey Plastic Surgery services Skin Care Ultherapy

We are happy to announce a new type of non-surgical, non-invasive procedure. Ultherapy is an ultrasound-based technology for non-invasive skin lifting and we are excited to offer this exclusive new treatment which will be available for our patients in November.

Ultherapy® is a new type of non-surgical, non-invasive procedure for the face that uses ultrasound and the body’s own natural healing process to lift, tone, and tighten loose skin. It utilizes the Ulthera® System, which is cleared by the FDA for use as a non-invasive treatment to lift the eyebrow to achieve a desired aesthetic effect.

We are very proud to introduce Ultherapy into our practice. As an FDA approved ultrasound device for skin lifting, this procedure will give our patients a non-surgical option for facial rejuvenationDr. Asaad H. Samra, MD, FACS at Samra Plastic Surgery says. “ There are no incisions, no downtime and the results last at least 18-24 months. We are very excited about this technology and its expanding indications coming for use on the body.”

Ultherapy is the only non-invasive treatment that can specifically target the deep foundation below the skin that is addressed in cosmetic surgery, without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin. It is also the only aesthetic procedure to use ultrasound imaging, which allows practitioners to actually see the deep layers of tissue treated during the procedure and ensure the energy is delivered precisely to where it will be most effective.
