Brow Lift

What is a Brow Lift?

Case #8888

A brow lift is a surgical procedure to improve the position of a drooping and aging eyebrow. This procedure creates a more refreshed, youthful appearance and is an important component to improving the appearance of the eyes and face. It can be combined with other cosmetic procedures of the eyes and face, depending on a patient’s particular needs and their consultation with one of our surgeons.

What are the benefits of a brow lift?

The primary benefit of this procedure is a more youthful and refreshed appearance of the brow, forehead, and eyes.

Am I a good candidate for a brow lift?

Patients who have excess skin of the forehead resulting in a drooping brow may be good candidates for a brow lift. Certain medical conditions, like diabetes, heart disease, or lung disease can make you a poor candidate for elective invasive surgery. Patients who smoke that are seeking a brow lift must also be willing to give up smoking for at least three weeks before and after their surgery.

How is a brow lift performed?

Brow lifts are done as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia in the operating room. They are often combined with other cosmetic procedures of the eyes such as a blepharoplasty or the face such as a facelift. Brow lifts are typically performed with incisions that are typically hidden within the hair line.

What is brow lift recovery like?

As with any soft tissue surgery, some discomfort is normal during the first 1 to 2 weeks; medication may be prescribed to help with this. After the initial couple of days, our patients can expect to feel better each day. Some swelling and bruising is also normal after a brow lift, but this subsides over a couple of weeks. Most routine daily activities at home, school, and/or work can typically be resumed within 1 to 2 weeks after surgery.

What will the scarring look like?

Brow lifts are typically performed with incisions that are typically hidden within the hair line.

Are there good nonsurgical options for brow lift?

Sometimes a “chemical brow lift” can be accomplished with injectables such as neurotoxins (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, or Juveau) and fillers. While this approach avoids an invasive surgery, these results are inherently temporary and limited compared to the outcome that a surgery can provide.
