I have had two procedures done by Dr. Samra, rhinoplasty in 2000 and breast augmentation this year. There arent even words to describe how happy I am with every single thing about Dr. Samra and his office.
What is fat transfer?
Fat transfer, also known as fat grafting, is a procedure in which fat is removed from one or several areas of the body by liposuction and then transferred to another part of the body.
What are the benefits of fat transfer?
Fat transfer can bring natural volume to any area of the body. Though not all of the fat transferred will remain, the fat that does remain should create very long-lasting results. Fat transfer can usually be done in conjunction with other procedures such as a face and neck lift or body contouring.
Am I a good candidate for fat transfer?
It is recommended that you be in overall good health, and that you have enough fat to be able to augment you’re your desired area. In situations where the patient is too thin, there may be some other modalities that we can employ to add volume.
It is also important to note that the results of your fat transfer can be jeopardized if you gain a significant amount of weight after your procedure. Maintaining a consistent diet and exercise routine after your procedure is incredibly beneficial for results and general health.
How is fat transfer done?
During fat transfer, your surgeon will mark areas of your body where fat can be harvested (removed) by liposuction. Typically, this includes your abdomen, flanks and back. The fat is collected and then re-injected into the area(s) that we hope to create volume.
What is fat transfer recovery like?
Fat transfer is usually done in our Ambulatory Surgical Center as an outpatient procedure. This means that you will go home the same day and will likely be seen within a few days to make sure that you are healing well. You will be placed in a compression garment after surgery and will be asked to use it from about 6 weeks. After surgery, you will likely be referred for lymphatic massage that will help with the post-operative welling as well as contour.
What will the scarring look like?
There is minimal scarring after fat transfer as there are no incisions. There will be several small stab incisions used that will leave a small mark.
Will insurance cover my fat transfer?
No, as a fat transfer is considered a cosmetic procedure.
