Salem Samra, MD, FACS
Dr. Salem Samra was born and raised in New Jersey where he graduated as valedictorian from The Ranney School. He completed a double major in the Biological Basis of Behavior and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated Summa Cum Laude/Phi Beta Kappa. He attended medical school at the Baylor College of Medicine where he graduated with high honors, Alpha Omega Alpha, and received the prestigious DeBakey Scholar Award. He competed a six-year residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Yale University and stayed on campus to complete a fellowship in Hand and Microsurgery at Yale. During his training, Dr. Samra published numerous papers in plastic and hand surgery and presented his research at multiple regional and national meetings.
Dr. Salem Samra joined The Samra Group on July 1st, 2013. He is on the medical staff of Bayshore Medical Center, Riverview Medical Center, Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Old Bridge Medical Center, and Raritan Bay Medical Center.
Dr. Salem Samra’s extensive training and experience both locally and abroad facilitate his work not just as a surgeon but also in his role as a teacher and administrator. He is an Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine and has mentored numerous medical students in their path to become young surgeons. He also serves as the Associate Medical Director of the Ambulatory Surgical Center at Old Bridge and is president of the Yale Plastic Surgery Alumni Society.
Dr. Samra is a skilled surgeon, a humanitarian, and an academician. His practice is patient-centered and he strives for his patients to be heard, informed, and comfortable in every step of the surgical process. With an international perspective and a local upbringing, Dr. Samra is pleased to serve his native community of Central New Jersey, implementing his capabilities in plastic, reconstructive, and hand surgery.
Dr. Samra is uniquely qualified in that he is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery in both Plastic Surgery & Hand Surgery. He is a member of the New Jersey Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
Dr. Samra prides himself on providing patients with expert care for their plastic surgery concerns whether they be cosmetic, reconstructive, or involving hand surgery. He trained at elite programs that involved international travel.
He has been on numerous medical missions, including a craniofacial surgical mission in Colombia with the group Changing Children’s Lives, a hand surgery mission in Honduras with the organization Hand Help, and multiple trauma reconstruction and plastic surgery missions in Jordan with the Syrian American Medical Society.
